Suzuki Principles in Action (SPA) is a course designed to help teachers incorporate Suzukis principles effectively in their teaching. The course focuses on how to teach, not what to teach, and to allow for the sharing of ideas among all instrument areas. It is based on Dr. Suzukis belief that knowledge is an important first step, but knowledge plus 10,000 times is what produces ability. Entrance Requirements: Any teacher (any instrument) from very experienced to the novice who has taught for a minimum of one year, has an active studio, and completed and registered ECC! (or 1A) and Book One training in their instrument area. Must also be a current, Active level SAA (Suzuki Association of the Americas) member. Registrants must arrive on time each day and attend the entire session each day. Online Assignments: The course includes required pre-course work and post-course assignments, all of which can be done over the internet and reviewed by the Teacher Trainer. Both assignments require you to video record yourself teaching a lesson and then self-evaluate it. How to Register: Links to course offerings will also appear in the SAA Newsletter. Register early. Course registrations will always close no later than 2 weeks before the class is to take place. General Guidelines for Recitals Reservations for a specific recital are taken only via the student form found in the Yearbook or as downloaded from this page. You may copy this as often as necessary. Cancellation is made ONLY in the event of illness. The recital chairperson must be contacted NO LATER THAN TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE RECITAL. Recital information should be given to the publicity chairman and printer by the recital chairperson two weeks prior to the recital. Final program order is left to the discretion of the recital chairperson ONLY. The recital chairperson should keep the program to one hour playing time. High school students may perform up to ten minutes. Please have pieces accurately timed before submitting them. Program is filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Students may perform the same work a maximum of two times. A reasonable period of time should elapse between performances of the same piece. Teachers may present two students on a program if there are an insufficient number of performers. This will be at the discretion of the recital chairperson and they will be included in the order submitted. Active members may present students and adult students on the program. Associate members may present a student twice during the year. Further clarification of guidelines is available from individual chairpersons. DRESS CODE: Appropriate attire is required for all stage performances. Please refrain from wearing jeans, tee shirts, sneakers, clogs, or platform shoes.; Dresses should be no shorter than knee-length. Do not chew gum. Pianists must perform from memory if performing at the Everson Museum. |
