Welcome! Central New York Association of Music Teachers (CNYAMT) invite teachers and students to join us in the education of musicians in the Central New York area. Our membership center is Syracuse, but reaches north to Fulton, West to Auburn, South to Cortland, and East to Utica. Join us in our educational endeavor!
Find a Teacher: We hope this website can provide students and families a place to find a music teacher, and further enrichment opportunities once in a studio.
Further Musical Enrichment: Workshops & masterclasses with visiting artists, recitals, and competitions are highly motivating for the developing musician.
Professional Support: Whether a new teacher, or a seasoned one, we feel it is important to support and encourage each other. We offer roundtable discussions and workshops. The roundtable discussions give us an opportunity to discuss a variety of professional topics with each other several times a year. We love getting together to meet and converse over coffee or tea.
Pedagogical Enrichment: Some workshops are provided for the students' benefit, and others are aimed toward the pedagogy and psychology of teaching.
*Recitals give teachers an opportunity to provide all levels of students with performing venues nearly every month.
*In December we have a fundraiser recital at Barnes and Noble which is a very supportive environment for both solo and ensemble performance.
*In March we have a fundraiser recital at the Great Northern Mall in Clay. Proceeds from Music at the Mall go to our Music Camp and Senior Merit Scholarship funds. This is open to all piano, instrumental and vocal performers.
*A Scholarship Benefit Concert is held in September each year. The music camp scholarship recipients perform as well as a guest artist. Proceeds go back into our scholarship fund for the following year.
* For the students ready for an extra push, there are competitions held every year. One is geared toward pianists, another toward vocalists, and a third for instrumentalists.
Talent based Music Scholarships: For students in their senior year there is also a scholarship competition with prize money that goes toward further music education after High School.
Music Camp Scholarships and Senior Merit Scholarships: These scholarships are awarded in May. Details about the awards and the applications can be downloaded from our site. The deadline to apply is May 1 each year. The applications can be found in the members only section of this website.
